The following are the best activities to do in Chicago with kids if you are traveling with family or a mixed-age group.

  1. Chicago Botanic Garden

The Chicago Botanic Garden is a collection of 27 incredible gardens distributed across 385 acres. If you’re in Chicago for the weekend and want to stay in Glencoe, this is a great location to stay. This is a great place not only for adults who appreciate strolling through a garden, but also for children who will enjoy elements such as the Nature Play Garden, the learning center, and the expansive Esplanade where they can run around in the grass. The toddlers will also appreciate the arched bridges in the Japanese Garden.

  1. Kohl Children’s Museum

Kohl Children’s Museum is an exceptional choice for what to do in Chicago with kids. The museum has 17 permanent exhibits that children can appreciate all year. The exhibits are innovative and will get the kids pondering about a variety of topics while also having a great time. What I like best about this exhibit is the Whole Foods Market for kids, which has been designed to appear lifelike and is a perfect simulation of the real thing. The vet facility and waterworks station are also must-see attractions at the museum.

  1. Illinois Holocaust Museum

Even if you are traveling with minors, the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center is a must-see. The museum conveys some harsh facts about the Second World War as well as some important lessons that children should be aware of. The museum also has an art collection and many excellent educational tools for children to learn about history. If you are traveling with preteens, I cannot suggest the Harvey L Miller Family Youth Exhibition enough. The children will appreciate the exhibit. Despite the weight of the substance, it is one of the most activities near Chicago.

  1. Gallagher Way

Gallagher Way is one of Chicago’s most popular family destinations. This is a particularly good option if you’re in Chicago during the holiday season. This plaza is close to the Wrigley Field marquee and is a great spot to have fun with the family. Gallagher Way has also held ice skating followed by holiday movie screenings during the winter season! The kids can also engage in wreath-making workshops, or you can plan ahead of time by researching some of the many activities available at the plaza. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream is also a nearby American institution.

  1. Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum

One of the best activities to do in Chicago with kids is to visit the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. The museum is an educational repository of Illinois’ natural heritage and ecology. The little ones will particularly appreciate playing in the water tables, where they can learn all about rivers and their origins. The butterfly greenhouse is also sure to be a big hit with both children and adults.

  1. The 606 Trail

The 606 Trail has a variety of events. This is a public park that’s created out of an abandoned railway route. On a nice Chicago evening, it’s a great spot to go cycling or for a stroll. While this is not Central Park in New York, where you can lounge, picnic, and visit the zoo, it is a place where you can admire innovation and appreciate how the city turned an abandoned site into something lovely. It’s a wonderful place to get some exercise and go on a family bike ride early in the morning.

  1. Centennial Wheel at Navy Pier

If you’re looking for things to do in Chicago with kids, The Centennial Wheel at Navy Pier. The Ferris Wheel is a Chicago landmark, and while there are many other activities to do at the Navy Pier, it should be on every tourist’s list. The 200-foot-high Ferris wheel provides an amazing 360-degree view of Lake Michigan and the exciting pier. The enclosed gondolas are secure and provide a clear and breathtaking view that should not be overlooked.

  1. Chicago Shakespeare Theater

The Chicago Shakespeare Theater is another great place for family entertainment in Chicago. This may seem like an unusual suggestion for a family holiday, but the showcases at this theater include several productions. There are abridged versions of the classic plays available for children and students to appreciate. So, if you’re in town, make sure to consult their website to see if a suitable show is on. The experience will be worthwhile, and the children will appreciate it.

  1. Chicago Children’s Museum

The Chicago Children’s Museum, located on the renowned Navy Pier, is ideal for children under the age of ten. The kids can have a fun day of tinkering, DIY projects, and going on special excursions to dig up bones and learn more about dinosaurs. Forget about the youngsters; even adults like me find this exciting! If your child has even the slightest interest in science and history, this is an excellent exhibit for them.

  1. Chicago Riverwalk

The Chicago Riverwalk is one of my favorite places to visit in the metropolis. This is a pedestrian route that spans a mile and a half, with Lake Michigan on one end and Lake Street on the other. This is a waterfront from which you can experience the spectacular view of the Chicago skyline emerging from downtown. There are several eateries and food stalls along the waterfront where you can enjoy a snack or beverage by the water.
